New York Yankees outfielder Hideki Matsui is expected to undergo detailed examinations on his injured right knee within days, with surgery possible depending on the test results, club officials said Tuesday. Matsui ended his 2007 campaign with the Yankees' elimination from the postseason playoffs Monday after their loss to the Cleveland Indians three games to one in their American League division series. Matsui has had a swollen right knee since late June after a hamstring injury forced him to make a slow start to the season. The knee injury gradually took a toll on the Japanese player, who hit just .185 in September and .182 in the division series against the Indians. He finished the regular season with a .285 batting average, 25 homers and 103 RBIs in 143 games.
