Komusubi Ama, who upset grand champion Hakuho of Mongolia on the opening day, moved to his side at the faceoff and swatted Chiyotaikai down to improve to 3-2 in the 15-day tournament.

Chiyotaikai relinquished the lead to Aminishiki and lower-ranked wrestler Kasugao while dropping to 4-1.

In the day's final bout at Ryogoku Kokugikan, Hakuho picked up his fourth straight win with an arm throw that sent Hokutoriki sprawling.

Hakuho improved to 4-1 while No. 3 maegashira Hokutoriki fell to 1-4.

Earlier, sekiwake Aminishiki maintained his share of the lead at 5-0 by hauling down fellow sekiwake Asasekiryu at the center of the ring after a prolonged standoff.

Asasekiryu dropped to 2-3.

Newly promoted ozeki Kotomitsuki stayed one win off the pace by swatting down fourth-ranked maegashira Wakanosato to pick up his fourth win against one loss.

Wakanosato saw his record fall to 1-4.

No. 10 maegashira Kasugao kept his share of the lead by overpowering winless seventh-ranked Tokitsuumi to improve to 5-0.
