Mongolian Ama upset Chiyotaikai on Thursday, knocking the ozeki wrestler out of the lead on the fifth day of the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament.
Komusubi Ama, who upset grand champion Hakuho of Mongolia on the opening day, moved to his side at the faceoff and swatted Chiyotaikai down to improve to 3-2 in the 15-day tournament.
Chiyotaikai relinquished the lead to Aminishiki and lower-ranked wrestler Kasugao while dropping to 4-1.
In the day's final bout at Ryogoku Kokugikan, Hakuho picked up his fourth straight win with an arm throw that sent Hokutoriki sprawling.
Hakuho improved to 4-1 while No. 3 maegashira Hokutoriki fell to 1-4.
Earlier, sekiwake Aminishiki maintained his share of the lead at 5-0 by hauling down fellow sekiwake Asasekiryu at the center of the ring after a prolonged standoff.
Asasekiryu dropped to 2-3.
Newly promoted ozeki Kotomitsuki stayed one win off the pace by swatting down fourth-ranked maegashira Wakanosato to pick up his fourth win against one loss.
Wakanosato saw his record fall to 1-4.
No. 10 maegashira Kasugao kept his share of the lead by overpowering winless seventh-ranked Tokitsuumi to improve to 5-0.
