CHIBA — Hokkaido Nippon Ham jumped ahead in a four-run third and held on behind a strong performance from its pitching staff to defeat the Chiba Lotte Marines 4-1 on Thursday night at Chiba Marine Stadium.
Starter Ryan Glynn and relievers Takayuki Kanamori, Shintaro Ejiri, Hisashi Takeda and Micheal Nakamura combined to hold the Pacific League's highest scoring team to just one run and three hits as the Fighters became the second team in Japanese baseball to reach 70 wins.
"Those guys did a good job," slugger Fernando Seguignol said. "That's been our forte all year, our pitching."
