OSAKA (AP) U.S. pole vaulter Brad Walker won the world title on Friday with a jump of 5.86 meters, edging France's Romain Mesnil. German Danny Ecker took bronze.

Walker won silver two years ago at the world championships in Helsinki and was the year's leading vaulter.

Mesnil also finished with 5.86, but cleared it on his second attempt while Walker got over on his first.

Ecker cleared 5.81.

Defending champion Rens Blom of the Netherlands did not compete.
