Left-hander Tatsuya Kakigahara pitched a seven-hit shutout and Akira Nakamura drove in three runs Saturday as Teikyo blanked Nara's Chiben Gakuen 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the National High School Baseball Championship.

The Tokyo school capitalized in the second inning after loading the bases with one out and had three consecutive hits to take a 4-0 lead at Koshien Stadium. Kakigahara struck out eight in a 147-pitch outing.

In other third-round action, Masato Kumashiro hit a tiebreaking homer as Imabari Nishi of Ehime Prefecture rallied for four runs in the ninth inning on the way to a 6-2 win over Tochigi's Bunsei Geidai Fuzoku. Kumashiro allowed two runs and 10 hits in nine innings.

Gifu's Ogaki Nichidai jumped out to a 7-0 lead through four innings, taking advantage of two costly errors by Niigata Meikun en route to an 8-3 victory. Takayuki Morita held his opponent scoreless into the fifth and escaped a jam when he revisited the mound in the sixth and closed out the game.

Yusuke Nomura pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings in a five-strikeout effort and went 3-for-3 with two RBIs as Koryo of Hiroshima Prefecture routed Fukushima's Seiko Gakuin 8-2 to make the final eight.
