Nioka teed off for a two-run shot to right after a walk by Yoshitomo Tani with one out and Ogasawara followed with a solo blast for his 24th home run of the season as Yomiuri went ahead 3-0 in the Central League game at Yokohama Stadium.

Tatsuhiko Kinjo hit a solo drive in the bottom half to cut Yokohama's deficit to two runs, but Shinnosuke Abe and Takayuki Shimizu added a sacrifice fly and RBI double, respectively, in consecutive at-bats for a cushion in the sixth.
