KAWASAKI — Quarterback Joachim Ullrich was 13-of-19 and threw for three scores while the German defense held its opponent to only 25 total yards as Germany trounced South Korea 32-2 on Sunday at Kawasaki Stadium in Group 2 action of the 3rd IFAF World Championship.
The Germans made good use of their superior strength and speed to take control of the game. Running backs Danny Washington and Patrick Geiger were almost unstoppable which enabled Germany to deploy a time-consuming offense. Washington rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and Geiger added 130 yards on 11 attempts. Behind them the Germans dominated time of possession, holding on to the ball for 27:31 of the 48-minutes of regulation time.
"South Korea played well defensively, but on offense they had some problems because of mismatches up front," German defensive coordinator Walter Rohlfing said. "I want to give my defense credit for playing well and staying focused without giving up a point defensively."
The German defense was dominate in the game. Germany's defensive line maintained a powerful pass rush and the Korean offensive line was not able to provide enough time for quarterback Kim Kyoung Min, who also plays for the Bullseyes Tokyo of the X League in Japan.
Germany gave up only two first downs to South Korea, which recorded 41 yards in the air, but minus-16 yards on the ground.
