Koyano's leadoff blast against Yasuhiko Yabuta (1-3) over the left-center wall ensured that Nippon Ham remained in first place in the Pacific League. Shintaro Eijiri (5-1) pitched three shutout innings in relief for the win at Sapporo Dome.

Lotte grabbed a 3-1 lead by the fifth, which featured a two-run shot by Koichi Hori. Tomoya Satozaki added a solo drive in the sixth but Nippon Ham battled back before tying it on an Atsunori Inaba RBI single in the seventh.
