A throwing error by third baseman Yasushi Iihara allowed the game-winning run to score as the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Tokyo Yakult Swallows 3-2 on Friday.

Eiichi Koyano drove in the tying run with a broken-bat, two-out single before Iihara made a wild throw to first on a ground ball by Satoshi Nakajima at Sapporo Dome. Nippon Ham extended its winning streak to five games.
Takayuki Kanamori (1-0) got the win after working a scoreless ninth in his professional baseball debut.
Masao Kida (0-3) allowed three unearned runs in the ninth, spoiling a superb outing by Seth Greisinger, who gave up just four hits in eight shutout innings.

At Kyocera Dome, Tuffy Rhodes hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning and Tom Davey pitched one-run ball over seven-plus innings as Orix held off Hanshin.
Davey (3-4) was ejected after arguing balls and strikes in the eighth, but the bullpen held on to a one-run lead. Daisuke Kato closed out the ninth to earn his third save.
Ryan Vogelsong (3-3) took the loss. Orix extended its unbeaten streak to six games, including a tie.
