The Yomiuri Giants have signed a one-year contract with Venezuelan right-hander Geremi Gonzalez, the Central League club said Wednesday.
Gonzalez, who is scheduled to arrive in Japan next week, has a 30-35 record in his major league career that includes stints with the Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers.
The 32-year-old was 4-2 in 21 games with the Brewers in 2006 and has made five starts for the Toronto Blue Jays' Triple-A Syracuse this year with a 2-1 record.
