Pinch-hitter Damon Hollins tripled in the tiebreaking run in the top of the 11th inning as the Yomiuri Giants held on to beat the Chunichi Dragons 5-3 to become the first team in Japanese baseball to win 5,000 games Wednesday.
Hollins' two-out triple down the right-field line off closer Hitoki Iwase (0-1) put Yomiuri ahead 4-3 and Yoshinobu Takahashi followed with a double to give the team a two-run cushion in Central League action at Nagoya Dome.
Koji Uehara got the final three outs to earn his first career save. Masanori Hayashi (1-0) picked up the win in relief.
