Screwballer Shin Akahane struck out 10 batters in a complete-game shutout as Sozo Gakuendai Fuzoku of Nagano Prefecture downed Hokkaido's Asahikawa Minami 1-0 to book a spot into the second round at the national high school invitational tournament on Tuesday.
Akahane allowed three hits and got run support from third baseman Yuto Kubota's RBI double with one out in the fifth inning as the Nagano school prevailed in a contest between tournament debutants at Koshien Stadium.
