NHK Trophy runnerup Nobunari Oda struggled in the men's short program and was in 8th place behind leader Jeffrey Buttle with six left to skate Wednesday afternoon at the World Figure Skating Championships.
Oda, who turns 20 on Sunday, got off to a heart-breaking start by pulling out of his triple axel and wobbled coming out of the triple flip in his routine to "Fly Me to the Moon" by Howard Bart.
The judges awarded him 67.17 points to the groans of disappointment from the crowd.
