Third-ranked maegashira Miyabiyama pulled out of the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament on Sunday because of a thigh injury.

The former ozeki sustained the injury to his right thigh in his win over Kyokutenho on the seventh day of the 15-day tourney on Saturday and will need two weeks to fully recover.

Miyabiyama's withdrawal is his first since the 2003 New Year meet and fifth overall. He forfeits Sunday's scheduled bout with ozeki Kaio.
