Brazilian striker Washington has apologized to teammates and fans after throwing a temper tantrum in Wednesday's Asian Champions League Group E match. After being taken off in the Urawa Reds' 3-0 win over Indonesia's Persik Kediri, Washington threw his jersey and gloves to the ground and shouted in the direction of the Urawa bench. "I didn't intend any ill-feeling toward the team or the fans," Washington said Friday on Urawa's official Web site. "But it was the wrong thing to do and I apologize. I was frustrated with my play at the time." Washington was the J. League's leading scorer last season. He was used sparingly by coach Holger Osieck in Wednesday's match because of a sore knee.
