Tuffy Rhodes, who had stints with both the Kintetsu Buffaloes and Yomiuri Giants, will have a tryout with the Orix Buffaloes at spring training, officials of the Pacific League club said Monday. Rhodes, 38, is scheduled to arrive on Miyakojima on Valentine's Day to make a bid for a spot on the top team roster.
"He had hoped to play in Japan again. This is a test since he has been away from the game for awhile," said Orix team representative Toshio Hatatani.
Nori to Nagoya?
NAGOYA (Kyodo) Infielder Norihiro Nakamura, who was released from the Orix Buffaloes at the end of last season, will have a tryout with the Chunichi Dragons, the Central League team said Monday.
Nakamura is scheduled to arrive in Okinawa on Valentine's Day to take part in the team's spring training camp.
The 33-year-old Nakamura was unable to reach an agreement with the Buffaloes after the team decided it would give him a hefty pay cut.
