Chiba Lotte Marines team president Ryuzo Setoyama revealed Monday he is pursuing talks to acquire Panamanian slugger Julio Zuleta, whose contract negotiations with the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks have broken down. Setoyama said Chiba Lotte has offered the 31-year-old infielder a package that includes an $800,000 signing bonus (95 million yen) and an annual salary of $2.2 million (262 million yen) in a two-year contract. "We made contact with him about 10 days ago," Setoyama said, adding that Zuleta would be asked to join manager Bobby Valentine's lineup once an agreement is reached.
