Right-hander Takashi Saito agreed Tuesday to a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the baseball club said.

The deal is worth $1 million with another possible $300,000 in incentive bonuses based on games finished.

The 36-year-old signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers in February and arrived at spring training as a non-roster invitee.

After earning a call-up to the majors in early April, he was given the closer's role and earned 24 saves while going 6-2 with a 2.07 earned run average in 72 games.

"Takashi came on to be one of the key players in last year's success," Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said in a statement. "He stepped into a big role in the second half and handled it well. We're glad he's back."
