The Yomiuri Giants have traded Toshihisa Nishi to the Yokohama BayStars for fellow infielder Masakuni Odajima and cash, the Central League clubs said Monday.
Nishi, the 1996 Central League Rookie of the Year and four-time Gold Glove winner, lost his place in the starting lineup this year and was limited to 64 games and batted .185.
The 35-year-old utility infielder had asked to be traded for more playing time. He has hit .271, with 133 homers in his career.
