Manager Hiromitsu Ochiai, who led the Chunichi Dragons to their second Central League championship in three years in charge this season, agreed Monday with the club on a two-year contract extension.

Ochiai will earn an estimated 150 million yen in annual salary plus incentives under the latest agreement, which came four days after Chunichi saw its hopes of a first Japan Series title in 52 years dashed at the hands of the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters.

"A chapter in my career as manager came to an end after those three years, and winning the league pennant remains my foremost goal," Ochiai said after a meeting with team owner Bungo Shirai.

Shirai kept faith with the 52-year-old manager and gave him a 50 million yen increase in his annual salary under the new deal.
