Hanshin Tigers right-hander Yuya Ando and Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters closer Micheal Nakamura won the monthly MVP awards Wednesday for the first time in their careers.

Ando won all of his four starts with a 0.98 ERA and led the Central League in wins in September, while Nakamura recorded one win and eight saves in the month to help Nippon Ham finish atop the Pacific League regular-season standings.

In the category for position players, the CL named Chunichi Dragons first baseman Tyrone Woods and the PL selected Nippon Ham designated hitter Fernando Seguignol.

Woods topped the CL with nine home runs and had 28 RBIs to win the award for the first time since July 2005.

Seguignol led the PL in three major batting categories with a .408 average, eight homers and 24 RBIs.
