Estonian top-ranked maegashira Baruto pulled out of the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament on Wednesday after injuring his left knee in a bout the previous day.
Baruto took a nasty fall in a loss to sekiwake Miyabiyama and limped back to the locker room on the 10th day of the 15-day tournament, with his score falling to 4-6.
"My knee has swollen up. I'm through for this tourney," Baruto said.
"I have to change my sumo -- to move forward aggressively." Baruto, who forfeited his scheduled match against ozeki Kotooshu on Wednesday because of the withdrawal, missed the Kyushu meet last year because of acute appendicitis.
