Kimikazu Suzuki was named the new coach of the men's national basketball team Wednesday following Japan's first-round exit at the recently concluded FIBA World Championship, the Japan Basketball Association announced.

Suzuki, who coaches the Aisin Sea Horses in Japan's Super League, will replace Croatian coach Zeljko Pavlicevic in preparation for the Asian Games in Doha in December after host Japan failed to reach the second round of play in the 24-team tournament.
