The Fukuoka Softbank Hawks sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the 10th inning to beat the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles 9-2 on Friday and move within a half-game of the front-running Seibu Lions in the Pacific League.
Softbank snapped a 2-2 deadlock when Julio Zuleta was hit by a pitch from Kazuo Fukumori after Yasuyuki Kawamoto (2-2) allowed a hit and two walks to load the bases with one out in the top of the extra frame at Fullcast Stadium.
Jolbert Cabrera followed with a two-run double that opened up a three-run lead and the Hawks added four more runs on RBI hits from Hiroshi Shibahara and Munenori Kawasaki and a bases-loaded walk by Naoyuki Omura.
