The Swallows took a 4-0 lead on Miyade's two-run double in the first and Ramirez's two-run single in the third at Nagoya Dome, backing Gonzalez (5-6), who held the Central League leaders to two runs and four hits for his first win since July 25. The right-hander struck out 10 and walked one.

At Yokohama Stadium, Jeremy Powell threw eight solid innings and Takahiro Suzuki scored the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth on a Shinnosuke Abe RBI groundout as Yomiuri beat the BayStars for its third straight win.

Powell (8-8) allowed just one unearned run and four hits before Hisanori Takahashi escaped a two-on jam in the ninth for his ninth save, third in as many games.

At Hiroshima Stadium, Shigenobu Shima homered twice and went 3-for-3 with three RBIs as Hiroshima downed Hanshin for the second straight night.

At Tokorozawa's Invoice Seibu Dome, Kazuhiro Wada homered twice and went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Daisuke Matsuzaka struck out 12 in eight innings as Seibu beat Chiba Lotte for its fourth straight win.

Wada hit two-run homers in the first and seventh innings as the Pacific League leaders took a quick 4-0 lead and added three runs after the Marines pulled to 4-3 against Matsuzaka (13-4).

At Osaka's Kyocera Dome, Tadaatsu Nakazawa hit a bases-clearing triple in a five-run first inning as Fukuoka Softbank handed Orix its seventh consecutive defeat.
