Ryuya Nakazawa hit a game-tying homer and Tadao Mitani drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth Tuesday as Hokkaido's Komadai Tomakomai overcame a six-run deficit to edge Aomori Yamada 10-9 and advance to the National High School Baseball Championship quarterfinals.

Nakazawa's one-out solo shot tied the third-round game at 9-9 and Mitani capped the two-time defending champion's dramatic rally with a double to left-center field with two outs and a runner on first.

Yudai Noda hit a three-run homer and Seiya Honda and Hayato Tsuchihashi each drove in two runs to help Aomori Yamada take leads of 7-1 and 8-5. Kenji Ohigashi broke an 8-8 tie with a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth after Komadai Tomakomai pulled even with a three-run eighth against tiring starter Noda.
