Former Kansas City Royals right-hander Mac Suzuki has agreed to a minor league deal with the Chicago Cubs, the player said on his official Web site on Thursday.
The 31-year-old Suzuki, who will join up with Cubs Triple-A affiliate Iowa, was a non-roster spring training invitee for the Oakland Athletics this season but was released and has been playing at Mexican League team Tijuana.
Suzuki made his debut in the majors in 1996 and went 16-31 with a 5.72 ERA in a six-year major league career that included stints with the Seattle Mariners, Kansas City and the Milwaukee Brewers. He joined the Orix Buffaloes in 2003 and posted a 5-15 record with a 7.53 ERA in two seasons.
