Hayato Terahara pitched a two-hitter for his first career shutout and Nobuhiko Matsunaka ignited the offense with an RBI single in the first inning as the Softbank Hawks beat the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters 5-0 on Sunday.
Terahara (3-4) walked three consecutive batters in the first but rebounded from the shaky start to carry a no-hitter into the sixth and ended up allowing just two singles in the Pacific League game at Yahoo Dome.
The right-hander, playing in his fifth season in professional baseball, struck out two, walked three and retired 15 straight batters during one stretch en route to his first win since May 6.
