Yomiuri Giants closer Kiyoshi Toyoda was removed from the active roster Saturday, citing slight soreness in his right shoulder, officials of the Central League club said.

Toyoda became the latest casualty for the reeling Giants after blowing a save in the ninth inning in a loss to the Tokyo Yakult Swallows a day earlier.

Team officials said the inflammation in Toyoda's shoulder was expected to clear up soon but that the 35-year-old right-hander would not be tossing the ball for the next few days, even with the farm team.
