Kashima Antlers midfielder Mitsuo Ogasawara, a member of Japan's World Cup squad, collected a record 521,862 votes to lead the list of players selected for the upcoming All-Star match released Friday by the J. League.
Ogasawara became the top vote getter for the first time and is among eight World Cup players named to the J. East squad, including Yokohama F. Marinos defender Yuji Nakazawa, Urawa Reds midfielder Shinji Ono and Kashima Antlers forward Atsushi Yanagisawa, for the July 15 match against J. West at Kashima Stadium.
Gamba Osaka defender Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, captain of Japan's squad in Germany, earned the most votes in the J. West squad for the third straight year with 392,792. Veteran Cerezo Osaka midfielder Hiroaki Morishima was chosen for a record-tying ninth time.
