Fenerbahce have signed Brazilian Zico, who coached Japan at the World Cup finals in Germany, as manager of the Turkish club, the club's official Web site said Tuesday.

Zico, who has agreed on a two-year deal with the Istanbul-based team, quit as Japan coach after four years in charge following Japan's first-round exit in the Word Cup. Japan finished bottom of Group F after defeats by Australia and Brazil and a draw with Croatia.

The 53-year-old will take over from German Christoph Daum, who stepped down after Fenerbahce finished runnerup to crosstown rivals Galatasaray in the Turkish top flight in the 2005-06 season.
