Ryuji Shoji went 3-for-4 and drove in five runs as Osaka University of Health and Sport Sciences edged defending champion Aoyama Gakuin University 7-6 in the final of the national collegiate baseball championship Tuesday.
Shoji hit a bases-clearing double in the fourth inning and had a two-run homer in the eighth at Jingu Stadium, helping the university capture its first-ever national collegiate title.
Toru Murata, who earned the save in the final, was named the MVP after a series of solid relief outings in the tournament while teammate Yuya Tominaga won the batting title with a .533 batting average.
