Mongolian ozeki Hakuho disposed of countryman Asasekiryu in the final to claim his first victory at a single-elimination tournament on Sunday.
Hakuho beat Russian wrestler Hakurozan with an overarm throw in the semifinals before twisting down Asasekiryu with a pulling overarm technique at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan to pocket 2.5 million yen in prize money.
Mongolian yokozuna Asashoryu, who pulled out of the summer meet in May with a right elbow injury, lost to Hakurozan in his first match.
