FRANKFURT -- England labored to an unconvincing 1-0 win against Paraguay in its Group B opener in Frankfurt on Saturday.

A fourth-minute own goal by Paraguay captain Carlos Gamorra got England off to a dream start, but Sven-Goran Eriksson's men wilted soon after in the sweltering sunshine, and the game petered out, giving England a reality check on its hopes of lifting the World Cup for the first time since 1966.
