Reigning world champion Ayako Shoda prevailed with a crushing victory over national champion Seiko Yamamoto in the women's 59-kg weight class Sunday to book a spot in the world wrestling championships in China this fall.

Shoda, who beat Yamamoto in the Japan Queens Cup final in March to avenge her loss at the national championships last December, dominated Yamamoto with a 2-0 drubbing at Yoyogi national gymnasium annex in Tokyo.

In men's freestyle action, Hidenori Taoka beat national champion Tomohiro Matsunaga in a playoff at 55 kg to seal a berth for the world championships in Guangzhou, taking place Sept. 26-Oct. 1.
