Rick Guttormson became the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter in the history of interleague play in Japanese baseball as the Yakult Swallows shut out the Rakuten Eagles 6-0 on Thursday.
Guttormson (4-2) kept the Eagles off-balance all evening with an effective mix of fastballs and sliders and faced only two batters over the minimum at Jingu Stadium, a batter friendly ball park in Tokyo.
