Seattle Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki and New York Mets second baseman Kazuo Matsui both extended their hitting streaks to nine games with two hits apiece in the major leagues on Sunday.

Ichiro went 2-for-4 with a single to center and an infield hit in Seattle's 9-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, improving his batting average to .293.

Ichiro also had a groundout, walked and reached on an error by Angels shortstop Orlando Cabrera.

Seattle catcher Kenji Jojima singled to center for his only hit of the day in four at-bats. He also grounded out three times and saw his average drop slightly to .269.

Matsui got two hits for the first time since April 28 with singles to left in the Mets' 6-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in 10 innings at Miller Park. Matsui flied out, walked and grounded out twice in his other at-bats and his average rose to .265.

Elsewhere, Tadahito Iguchi went 0-for-4 and was hit by a pitch as the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Minnesota Twins 9-7. So Taguchi came off the bench as a defensive replacement and was 0-for-2 in the St. Louis Cardinals' 7-6 defeat to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
