Japanese referee Toru Kamikawa, who has been picked to officiate at this summer's World Cup, said Monday his dream is to stand on the pitch in the final of the tournament.

Kamikawa, 42, became only the second Japanese referee selected for two World Cups when he made the final list of 23 referees released Friday by soccer's world governing body FIFA. His countryman Shizuo Takada officiated at the 1986 and 1990 tournaments.

"It's not an unthinkable thing that I could be assigned to a match in the second round or beyond at the World Cup if I officiate the way I normally do on the pitch," Kamikawa said. "I'd like to keep my dream of officiating a World Cup final."
