Yokohama right fielder Kenji Sato hit a two-run single and scored three runs Friday, leading the Kanagawa powerhouse to a 13-3 rout of Tokyo's Waseda Jitsugyo to claim a semifinal berth in the national high school baseball invitational tournament.

Sato drove home two runners with a single to center in a four-run third inning off Waseda Jitsugyo ace Yuki Saito, who took the mound for the third straight day.

The right-hander went the distance in a 15-inning, 7-7 tie with Okayama's Kanzei on Wednesday, followed by seven innings in a 4-3 rematch win Thursday.

Yokohama lefty Ken Kawasumi allowed three runs and seven hits in seven innings before relievers Ayato Urakawa and Kazuki Nishijima combined for two scoreless innings.

Yokohama reached the semifinals for the first time in three years since it finished runnerup at the tournament in 2003.

Earlier in the day, Ryuichi Bito scattered eight hits and struck out nine in a complete-game shutout as Gifu Johoku beat Hyogo's Shinko Gakuen 4-0 in other quarterfinal action.

Gifu Johoku left fielder Masaya Niwa delivered a two-run double and shortstop Masaki Mamiya also doubled to make it 3-0 in the third inning. Center fielder Yudai Suzuki capped the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.
