Ichiro Suzuki went 1-for-5 with a leadoff single to left in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday in his fourth preseason appearance since joining the Seattle Mariners camp after the World Baseball Classic.

Suzuki moved to third on singles by Raul Ibanez and Richie Sexson before scoring on a fielder's choice groundout by Adrian Beltre as the Mariners played the effective small-ball style Japan showed on its way to the inaugural WBC title earlier this month.

"I can't tell what it is going to be like and probably it'll take the whole month of April before it becomes clear," Suzuki said when asked about the playing style the new-look Mariners are trying to adopt to get out of the American League West cellar.
