Tournament favorite Yokohama scraped into the quarterfinals after surviving a late rally to edge Yaeyama Shoko of Okinawa 7-6 in the second round of the national high school invitational meet Wednesday.

Yokohama took the lead in the third inning on a solo homer by first baseman Tatsuaki Okada and appeared headed for a rout after a six-run fourth keyed by a two-run double from Kenji Sato and a Ko Shimozuru RBI triple off Yaeyama starter Nagayasu Kinjo.

Kinjo, who went 4-for-5 at the plate, sparked a rally against Yokohama southpaw Ken Kawasumi in the sixth with his second homer of the tournament and Yaeyama pulled within a run by scoring five times on six consecutive hits in the eighth.
