Matsui, who played left field and batted third in the lineup, drove a 2-2 pitch from right-hander Brian Moehler over the right-center wall with one out and runners on second and third in the third inning.

"I think it was a sinker or a two-seem fastball. I've been able to hit low pitches like that recently," Matsui said, referring to his second homer in three games following his solo blast against the Houston Astros on Thursday.

Matsui also hit a sacrifice fly and grounded out twice.

At Tucson, Ariz., Chicago White Sox second baseman Tadahito Iguchi batted sixth in the lineup and went 1-for-4 with a single to right in his first at-bat in a 9-3 win over the Chicago Cubs.

At Viera, Florida, New York Mets right-hander Yusaku Iriki had a rough outing against the Washington Nationals, allowing five runs on five hits, including two homers, and five walks in 3-2/3 innings. He took the loss as a Mets split squad lost 10-2.

Elsewhere, So Taguchi was hitless in four at-bats in the St. Louis Cardinals' 7-0 win over the Baltimore Orioles.
