Sean Douglass pitched four shutout innings and Keiji Fukui broke a scoreless tie with a solo homer Friday as the Hiroshima Carp beat the Hanshin Tigers 1-0 in a preseason exhibition game.

Douglass, who was 5-5 with a 5.56 ERA in 18 games for the Detroit Tigers last year, held Hanshin to three hits and a walk without striking out a batter, while Fukui hit his second home run of the spring in the eighth inning off lefty Atsushi Nomi.

Hanshin right-hander Darwin Cubillan threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings, but struggled with his command, walking three batters. He allowed four hits and struck out two.
