Tokyo Yakult Swallows left-hander Hirotoshi Ishii said Saturday he has decided to put off his attempt to move to the major leagues and pitch for the Central League team this year.
Ishii, who had earlier wanted to pursue a major league career through the posting system this offseason, said Yakult President Yoshikazu Tagiku promised him to help realize his wish after the 2006 season when they met Friday.
The 28-year-old has yet to sign a new contract.
Ishii was 4-3 with 37 saves and a 1.95 ERA in 61 games last year.
