Japanese right-hander Yusaku Iriki left Japan for the United States on Tuesday hoping to strike a deal with a major league club during his trip.
Iriki, who was released by the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters last month, did not reveal the name of the major league club he will meet with, but baseball sources said the New York Mets have shown interest in the 33-year-old.
"I hope to reach an official agreement. My agent has told me that the club is prepared to propose terms that could ease the way for me to play in the majors," Iriki said.
Iriki has a 35-35 career record with three saves and a 3.75 ERA. Last season, he was 6-7 with a 3.35 ERA in 28 games.
