Seibu Lions slugger Alex Cabrera will return to the Pacific League club for a sixth season under a new deal expected to run through the 2007 season.
Seibu said Wednesday it has agreed with the Venezuelan on a new contract but did not disclose details. Baseball sources said the two sides will likely sign a two-year deal worth 1.2 billion yen, including performance bonuses.
Cabrera, who hit 55 homers in 2002 to tie the single-season home run record in Japanese baseball, hit .300 with team highs of 36 homers and 92 RBIs in 127 games this year.
In July, Cabrera became the fastest player to hit 200 career homers in Japan by reaching the milestone in his 538th game.
