Nippon Ham Fighters right-hander Yusaku Iriki said Wednesday he will try to pursue a career in the major leagues via the so-called posting system this offseason.
"It would be my last chance because of my age. I didn't want to regret not giving a shot," the 33-year-old said. The Fighters have decided to release Iriki and will take necessary procedures at the baseball commissioner's office as early as Thursday.
Under the posting system, major league clubs present sealed bids to Japanese teams to acquire players.
Iriki has a 35-35 career record with three saves and a 3.73 ERA.
