Mongolian yokozuna Asashoryu's wife Tamir gave birth to a son Thursday at a Tokyo hospital, Sumo Fan Magazine reported on its Web site (www.sumofanmag.com).
The Web site reports that the son, who will be given a traditional Mongolian name, has been nicknamed "Dorj" for the time being.
Asashoryu and his wife already have a 2 1/2-year-old daughter and, according to Sumo Fan Magazine, the successful yokozuna was keen to have a son who could follow in his sumo footsteps one day.
The report said both mother and son are in good health.
