Bulgarian sekiwake Kotooshu, who missed out on the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament title last month, won the All-Japan Rikishi Championship on Monday.
Kotooshu slapped down Tokitenku in the final of the one-day mini tournament at Ryogoku Kokugikan after walking Futeno out of the ring from behind in a semifinal bout. Kotooshu earned 2.5 million yen in prize money.
Defending champion yokozuna Asashoryu was eliminated by fellow Mongolian Tokitenku in the first round.
