Kosuke Takeuchi scored in the final period in a last-ditch effort as Japan held off South Korea in a playoff for third place for a 64-63 victory at the Kirin international men's basketball tournament Wednesday.
With less than a minute remaining, Takeuchi scored from underneath the basket to change a 63-62 deficit into a 64-63 lead at Hiroshima Prefectural Sports Center.
Japan, which had been winless in three matches in the preliminary round, came in third while South Korea took fourth.
Turkey, which finished second in the preliminary round of the four-team tournament with a 2-1 record, defeated Lithuania 99-82 to claim the championship title in the final.
